Our Philosophy

We believe that good grooming is a key component in caring for our canine family members and it shouldn’t be a scary or stressful experience for you or your pet.  We offer “boutique” style dog grooming for our clients and their pets.  The Dirty Dog Wash is a very personalized, vet recommended, almost all word-‐of-‐mouth, well-‐established business since 1996.

At the Dirty Dog Wash we build relationships with our human and canine clients that have lasted over many years.  We go above and beyond to tailor every groom to meet the needs of our clients and their dogs by getting to know each and every dog like they are one of our own.  This practice helps us to provide the safest, calmest environment to make grooming a routine and pleasant experience for the dogs.  The majority of our clientele makes advance appointments (see our Pampered Pooch Program) and stay on a regular schedule, which is ideal for everyone, but most importantly, for the health and well being of our dogs.  After all, it IS all about the dogs!

Who we are

Liz Hartman is the owner of Dirty Dog Wash & Salon.  She has been working with dogs for more than 25 years, the last 22 of which she has spent dog grooming in her own salon.

Ever since birth she has had a dog (or 2 or 3!) by her side.  Liz was raised with a deep love and respect for all animals, and the gentle, loving, loyal nature of the dog really captured her heart from the beginning.  This special connection with dogs has fueled her career in canine care ever since.

Liz lives in downtown Frederick with her husband, Jeff, and their 3 dogs and 2 cats.

Cheyenne Kitzmiller, Manager and one of our wonderful canine stylists, is a huge animal lover, especially dogs.  She has worked in the pet care industry for over 13 years.  The last 5 years she has been grooming and managing full time at the Dirty Dog Wash & Salon and it has been a perfect fit!

Cheyenne lives in Dickerson, MD with her husband, Joe, daughter, River, and their seven dogs (yes 7!) and many other furry critters.

As the owners of a total of three toy poodles, we have used Dirty Dog Wash for at least the last four years. We have always felt comfortable leaving our dogs there for a day of special grooming care. Even though we lost one of our fur babies, we felt totally confident in introducing our puppy to the care received at Dirty Dog Wash. Our oldest’ life was ultimately saved after they noticed what appeared to be a rash during grooming. Upon a trip to the vet, it was determined that she had a serious blood condition. And had it not been noticed when it was, she would have probably died. Not only do the personnel know grooming, they also know about behavior and warning signs of health issues. We consider the Dirty Dog Wash as an important part of our doggie-care family.
